Potterspury Lodge, now a Steiner School, is a limestone and ironstone house of 1664 with major 1899 and 1920s additions (the former possibly involving Lutyens), whose Georgianised central range, altered wings, Jacobean-panelled room and open-well stair now stand amid extensive outbuildings adapted for school use.

Description

Potterspury Lodge (Steiner School), 1 m. nw on the A5. Of limestone with ironstone dressings, with platband and quoins. 1664 with additions of 1899 and the 1920s. Lutyens is said to have been involved with the 1899 additions. The central range could be 1664 but the appearance is more Georgian, although this is probably owed to the 1920s alterations. It has a slightly projecting three-bay section in the middle topped by a parapet with segmental-arched top. Large projecting canted porch to ground floor. Cupola above also 1920s. Two bays to r. and one to l. On the l. a taller and grander wing with two sash windows on the first floor and a Venetian window below, all with keystones. One room on the upper floor has Jacobean panelling. The staircase runs up in an open well. Twisted balusters with bulbous feet. Considerable outbuildings, some adapted in 1976 by Gotch, Saunders & Surridge. The Steiner School was set up here in 1956.
