Sheephatch House
At Sheephatch House near Tilford, Lutyens added around 1890 a refined Baroque shell‑hooded doorway to a c.1840 stucco villa, representing the earliest known classical feature in his work and foreshadowing his frequent later use of classical interior details.

Description
SHEEPHATCH HOUSE (formerly Heathy Field), ¾ m. N, is a stuccoed villa of c. 1840 with a delicate Baroque shell-hooded doorway by Lutyens, 1890. (O’Brien et al,2022, p.685)
Although he only occasionally used Georgian for exteriors, he constantly used classical details for interiors, usually for fireplaces, cornices, columns and staircases. The shell-hooded doorway at Sheephatch House, Tilford of 1890 is the earliest known classical feature of his work. (Amery et al., 1981, p.76)
