Villers-Bocage Communal Cemetery Extension
Adjoining the municipal cemetery, this small Casualty Clearing Station burial ground has a few long rows of graves set below road level, approached across a planted bank to a three‑walled front terrace where broad flanking steps frame the Cross of Sacrifice before descending to the irregular grave field.

Description
Adjoining the municipal cemetery, the cemetery was constructed for Casualty Clearing Stations during the war. The irregular field with graves consists of five long rows and a row of three graves. The graves are oriented away from the road. The difference in height is bridged by two broad steps that lie on either side of the Cross of Sacrifice in a front area that is enclosed by three stone walls. Lutyens also used steps around the Cross of Sacrifice in the Vendresse British Cemetery. The entrance is similar to that at Fienvillers British Cemetery. An embankment with plants lies between the field and the road. (Geurst, 2010, p.425)
