Description
Lutyens had already, by 1900, achieved a significant body of work but was anxious not to be typecast as an architect of domestic houses…Consequently he entered the competition to design a church, on an awkward, sloping corner site, with a semi-Byzantine design, with round-arched entrances, a dome and lunette windows – all favourite motifs in his church designs of this period…He was unsuccessful.
