Lutyens’s 1927 tomb for Alfred Viscount Milner is an austere, monumental square block of Portland stone with subtly recessed and projecting elements, a plain stone seat before four cypresses, and minimal inscriptions to Alfred and his wife Violet on projecting blocks.

Description
Towards the se corner, tomb to Alfred Viscount Milner †1925 (of Great Wigsell, see below), 1927 by Lutyens. A massive elemental block of Portland stone, completely unadorned apart from recessed corners and the inscriptions to Alfred and Violet, his wife. It stands on its own, with a stone seat, in front of four cypress trees. Most uncharacteristic in an English country churchyard but all the more moving for that. (Antram, 2013, p.615)
A large square mass of Portland stone on a base of rubblestone. Block has slight projections and recessions. On one axis is a plain slab seat supported by rubble piers. Elevation has projecting plinth one third height of monument. At corners cubical blocks project slightly from main mass of stone. On main axis a square block projects slightly over the plinth in the centre. At sides rectangular blocks project flush with plinth. These bear inscription to Alfred Viscount Milner 1854-1925 and Violet Maxine, his wife. (Historic England, list entry 1217712)
