Hoe Farm
At Hoe Farm in Hascombe, Lutyens’s early work of 1891–2 added a rear wing with a prominent chimney, jettied tile-hung gable and oriel over a bay, plus an intricate split staircase, to an already picturesque raised late-medieval farmhouse remodelled in stone in the 17th century.

Description
Some of Lutyens’s earliest work was done at Hascombe. HOE FARM, Hoe Lane, W of the church, is a good C15 farmhouse, timber-framed, remodelled in stone in the C17 with gable at the l. end and big chimney with gableted sides; Tudor arch fireplace inside. The main part is attractively raised on a stone-walled terrace so the approach is by steps to the front door and the r. part is three-storeyed. Lutyens added the rear wing, 1891–2, with its own big chimney pierced by a small window and a jettied tile-hung gable with oriel, under-propped by a bay window (cf. The Corner, Thursley). Also typical of his early work is the delightfully intricate staircase, with two arms which meet at a half-landing and then separate again. (O’Brien et al, 2022, p.438)
